Barranquilla Carnival with CCC!
When: Saturday 13th February at 5pm-6pm GMT
Who: All levels & ages welcome! Dance on your own or with friends!
On Saturday the 13th of February 5pm UK time we will be bringing people together across the globe to celebrate Barranquilla Carnival, the second biggest carnival in the world!
Sadly with the current restrictions, the carnival in Colombia had to be cancelled this year but we're not going to let that stop the fun. We're bringing the carnival tunes to your living room with a Cumbia dance class taught by award-winning Colombian soloist at the Royal Ballet, Fernando Montaño!
Cumbia is one of the main genres of music played at Barranquilla carnival. It began as a courtship dance practised among the African population on the Caribbean coasts of Colombia. It is a mixture of Spanish, indigenous Colombian and African music using mainly percussion and flutes.
At CCC, we believe dance, music and drama are powerful tools. Our partners make them a central part of their projects, helping children build confidence, claim power over their bodies, and express their emotions.
Bring your best dance moves, amazing energy and let’s party like its Barranquilla! You can grab a ticket by making a donation of a minimum of £5 to our work. All proceeds will go towards our work with Children in Colombia.
